What is CBD?

Short for Cannabidiol, CBD is one of the cannabinoids which can be found in the cannabis plant.

Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring chemical that when ingested (through oils, balms, tinctures, edibles, etc) can give the user the feeling of relaxation.

Unlike THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid within the cannabis plant) it is not psychoactive and therefore doesn’t make you high.

Why Cannabidiol doesn’t get you high

The cannabis plant is made up of two main cannabinoids; THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol).

CBD is an anti-psychotic and acts to counter the psychoactive effect of THC. This is why you don’t get the euphoria effect which is part of being high.

Furthermore; found in the hemp plant. Hemp also has no psychoactive effects.

Cannabidiol: Medical / Health Benefits

CBD can have many positive health benefits; although it is not intoxicating, research suggests that it can help you feel relaxed and calm.

For this reason, research has shown that it may help individuals who are dealing with anxiety and depression.

Research has also shown that CBD may also be useful as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Currently, it is being used to help patients with epilepsy and it has been reported to benefit those suffering from seizures.

Doctors are also now exploring its anti-psychotic properties with patients that are dealing with schizophrenia.

How CBD works in the body

Cannabidiol works on the endocannabinoid system within the human body. It binds to neurotransmitters and receptors known as CB1 & CB2. This allows it to interact with the central nervous system.

Conclusion

As CBD is non-psychoactive, unlike THC, it will not give the user a high. It has shown lots of promise for its medicinal benefits and research is still ongoing.
