Are you a beginner grower of cannabis planning to plant cannabis seeds? and want to know what it entails to grow your cannabis seeds? This piece is for you. Growing cannabis is a process that involves getting the seeds to sprout. When they sprout, little white tendrils appear from the seed, your cannabis’ first roots called tap roots. The other roots of your cannabis will grow from the taproot.

The Art of Growing Cannabis Seeds

Most cannabis growers think that the most critical stage of marijuana’s life cycle is the flowering and vegetative growth stages. But there are high chances of failure unless you know how to grow cannabis, as poor planning when growing cannabis can tamper with the next growth. Giving your cannabis seeds the best during their initial growth stages can give you a robust and healthy plant.

When cannabis seeds grow, they are desperate, small, and fragile and need a helping hand to grow better. Whatever methods you use to grow them have different benefits and limitations too. But remember, even with well-advanced equipment and growing techniques, you may end up with a few poorly grown cannabis seeds. It is how nature deals with living organisms.

How To Tell Which Cannabis Seeds Can Be Planted

The life of a cannabis plant starts by identifying the type of seed to grow. Viable cannabis seeds are brown, hard to touch, and dry with some stripes. If the seed is light green or white, it may be undeveloped and won’t germinate into a healthy plant.

You can grow your cannabis outdoors or indoors, depending on where you reside but growing your seeds indoors is the best option as there are greater chances of the seeds surviving. When you grow cannabis outdoors, they are exposed to hot or cold temperatures, mold, pests, and wind. The seed is vulnerable during the initial growth stage and needs great care. On the other hand, when growing the cannabis seeds indoors, avoid exposing them to any possible negative effects caused by insects and changes in temperature.

There are different ways of growing your cannabis seeds indoors, including placing the seeds in paper towels or cotton balls and spraying with water or planting the seeds in a small cup filled with soil.

What To Look For When Planting Cannabis Seeds

No matter where you purchase your cannabis seeds, ensure you precisely and delicately inspect them before growing. In most cases, the seeds will grow, but poor quality seeds will lead to a weaker cannabis plant, something you won’t notice until the seed is in its flowering and vegetative phases.

Ensure you check for a darker coloration in the seeds to avoid disappointments, as white or pale green seeds are likely not to grow well. Remember that even though the cannabis seeds are dark but look damaged, they are still good for growth. The seeds will grow well even though their outer covering is damaged.

Types of Cannabis Seeds

Photoperiod Cannabis Seeds

Photoperiod seeds produce female or male plants. Cannabis can take over a year to grow, and its flowering phase depends on the season; the plant dies at the end of the cycle. The plants stop their size growth and start flowering and producing buds during autumn when the daylight shorter.

When planting photoperiod seeds indoors, you can reduce the light period to six hours of darkness and eighteen hours of light during the vegetative stage. When the cannabis plant continues growing under that light regime, it won’t start flowering as it will remain in its vegetative stage. To produce the flowering stage you need to adjust the lighting schedule to 12 hours of Light & 12 hours of darkness.

Autoflowering cannabis Seeds

Autoflowering cannabis seeds mostly produce female plants that aren’t limited to photoperiod conditions to reach the flowering state from the vegetative stage. They switch automatically to the next growth stage as the seeds are designed to get to their flowering stage within a certain fixed time, no matter their light stimuli and environmental conditions.

Planting Autoflowering cannabis seeds are the best choice for beginner cannabis growers as they don’t have to worry about changing the light cycle if you don’t want to. Life cycles are fixed and shorter, and will grow faster than the photoperiod cannabis seeds.

Regular Cannabis Seeds

The regular cannabis seeds can either grow the female or male cannabis plant. Growing & Planting regular cannabis seeds are one of the easiest and most common ways of growing cannabis plants. The seeds are also easier to find and grow and cheaper than other cannabis seeds. However, while this is the easiest and cheapest to find they may cause more difficulties when growing if you are only looking for female plants.

Feminized Cannabis Seeds

The feminized seed only produces female cannabis plants. They are more expensive to find and purchase. But they utilize your soil, light, fertilizers, and space to their full capacity. The feminized cannabis plant needs twelve hours of light and darkness to change from its vegetative to its flowering stage.

The Expected Cannabis Seed Germination Time

Three key principles affect the initial growth of cannabis seeds: moisture, warmth, and darkness. With guaranteed moisture, the first roots will sprout at the right time. Take shape, and start developing into a young cannabis plant we all appreciate.

Under the right growing condition, your cannabis seeds will start sprouting within the first 12-36 hours of moisture introduction. Though the time can vary depending on the reliability of your germination area.

Choosing the Right Germination Method for Planting Cannabis Seeds

The glass of Water Method

It is one of the latest and favorite methods of growing cannabis seeds. It’s simple to implement and the best for beginner growers. Place your cannabis seeds in a glass filled with water that’s 22°C. After three to five days, the seeds will start budding, and a tiny white tip will appear. When the roots reach 2-3 mm, transfer them carefully from the water to well-prepared soil pots for further growth.

Wet Kitchen Towel Method

This is one of the common cannabis germination methods and comes with several iterations. Most growers utilize absorbent paper pieces or cotton wool pads to grow their cannabis seeds. With this method, you will need a wet kitchen towel that’s pre-prepared and well moisturized.

Place one side of the kitchen towel on the surface. Place the seeds on top of the towel while spacing them a centimetre away. Then place another wet kitchen towel on top. Ensure the towels are damp and not dripping wet. The same goes for this method: when the roots grow for about 2-3 mm, transfer them carefully to a soil pot.
