Cannabis Terpenes explained!
Found in the peels of citrus fruits and in many varieties of cannabis. Along with myrcene, the limonene terpene is one of the most abundant terpenes to occur in cannabis.
This terpene has been explored for its many medical uses & is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, antibacterial and anticancer qualities.
Do only Lemon cannabis strains contain this terpene?
Limonene is often assumed to be abundant in strains that smell like lemon but this isn’t always the case. The best way to know that a strain is in fact limonene-packed is to have it tested.
THC typically makes up 10-30% of a flower’s dry weight and limonene occurs in trace amounts, which are generally less than 2%.

Some strains exhibit higher levels of limonene than others and these levels can vary widely across harvests. This depends on genetics, growing techniques, and curing processes. The only way to know if your strain is high in limonene is through lab-tested batches.
These popular strains tend to produce limonene-dominant terpene profiles:
- Banana OG
- Berry White
- Do-Si-Dos
- MAC
- Quantum Kush
- Strawberry Banana
- Tahoe OG
- Wedding Cake
- Lemon Diesel
- Sunset Sherbet
- Spaceman
